When Preston (Press) N. Ericksen came back from serving in World War II, his father, A.D. Ericksen, a former Idaho attorney, judge, and district attorney, urged him to attend law school and follow him into the practice of law. In 1950, with his freshly minted law license, Preston joined his fatherís practice and opened the Firmís first office in Oakland. Robert (Bob) Arbuthnot joined the firm in 1969. Their practice thrived, resulting in the opening of the San Francisco office in 1967, the Sacramento office in 1970, and the Fresno office in 1974. In 1983, the first female partner in the history of the Firm, Julia F. Day, opened the Firmís San Jose office, which was followed closely by the opening of the Los Angeles office, thus expanding the Firmís reach throughout the state and becoming a truly regional, California-centric law firm.
At Ericksen Arbuthnot, we are proud of being one of the oldest, continually-operating law firms in the state. We are equally proud of our enduring commitment to professional excellence and of the talented and diverse group of people who make up our Firm. Stability, continuity, and excellence have been our watchwords throughout our past 70 years and will continue to be well into the future.
